Data provenance, also referred to as data lineage is defined as a data life cycle that includes the data’s origins and where it moves over time. It allows users to answer questions about the data, providing transparency into the data analytics channel to produce accurate, reliable business intelligence. The key goal of data provenance is to specifically track the data origination and segregating data in three key stages: data-in-motion, data-in-process & data-in-rest. In next 5 years, 25% of enterprise data is expected to reside in distributed ledger systems to guarantee data provenance & security.
