On December 18, 2023, Aziz Voitov, the former Agriculture Minister of Uzbekistan, was arrested as part of a criminal case on suspicion of corruption crimes.
He is suspected of large-scale embezzlement and abuse of official authority. According to the Supreme Court, the former minister was convicted under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (Embezzlement) Part 3, Clause “a,” and Article 205 (Abuse of Power or Authority) Part 2. He is accused of committing the crimes specified in Clause “a” and was subsequently detained in accordance with Article 221 (Grounds for Detention) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Voitov served as Agriculture Minister from 2022 until his dismissal in October 2023.
