On February 16, 2024, William Samuel McCann, Jr. (54), the former Illinois State Senator, pleaded guilty to nine counts of indictment. These charges include seven counts of wire fraud, one count of money laundering, and one count of tax evasion, all related to his alleged misuse of campaign funds for personal expenses.

McCann, through various political committees registered with the Illinois State Board of Elections, received over USD 5 million in campaign donations from April 2011 to November 2018. During his plea hearing, he admitted to using campaign funds for personal expenses, including loan payments, fuel, and insurance for vehicles, a recreational motor home, and a recreational travel trailer.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for McCann on June 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
