On December 4, 2023, Samuel Randazzo, the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), was indicted on charges related to bribery and embezzlement. Randazzo, 74, residing in Columbus, self-surrendered at the U.S. District Court in Cincinnati following the indictment returned on November 29. He faces an 11-count indictment.

Between April 2019 and November 2020, Randazzo allegedly received over $4.3 million from an energy company, FirstEnergy, in exchange for favorable decisions during regulatory proceedings. The indictment outlines instances where he purportedly altered PUCO orders to benefit the company, concealed funds meant for an industry group, and participated in embezzlement. These allegations led to federal charges, indicating a pursuit of accountability for these illicit activities.
