Colombian police arrested Nicolás Petro, the son of the President, on suspicion of money laundering, corruption, and illicit enrichment. The investigation revealed that Petro collected funds for Gustavo Petro’s 2022 Presidential Campaign from individuals accused of drug trafficking in exchange for their inclusion in the president’s peace plans.

However, Nicolás allegedly retained these resources for his own enrichment. His ex-wife, Daysuris del Carmen Vásquez, who is facing the same charges, was taken into custody in July 2023 in Barranquilla, the capital of Atlántico.
