On August 17, 2023, Vincent Dabilgou, a former Minister of Transport, was sentenced by the Ouagadougou High Court for embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment, money laundering, and concealed financing of a political party.

The court found him guilty of misusing 1.12 billion FCFA (around US$1.8 million) in public funds, engaging in illicit enrichment, money laundering, and secretly funding a political party, specifically the New Time for Democracy (NTD), of which he is the leader.

Vincent Dabilgou has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. He is also obligated to pay a fine of 3.3 billion FCFA (US$5.1 million), and his party’s activities have been suspended. Additionally, the court has ordered the confiscation of assets equivalent to the embezzled funds, which will be returned to the Treasury. Furthermore, a five-year ban on his engagement in all political activities has been imposed.
