On July 27, 2023, Tom Doshi, a prominent Albanian businessman and politician known for his close association with Prime Minister Edi Rama, was charged by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) for leading an organized criminal group within Australia.

Tom Doshi stands accused of spearheading a criminal organization that comprises his extended family members. This group is allegedly involved in activities such as immigration fraud, drug trafficking, and money laundering. Notably, eight of his relatives have been implicated in drug and money laundering investigations, with several identified as key suspects. According to reports, they obtained Australian visas through the use of falsified documents. Additionally, one of the relatives is currently facing charges related to drug trafficking.

Operating since 2000, this group has leveraged identity fraud and family connections with migration agents to facilitate the relocation of their members to Australia. They have established operational cells in various cities, including Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, and other locations.

It’s worth noting that on April 16, 2018, both Tom Doshi and his family members received a ban preventing them from entering the United States of America. This action was taken due to their alleged involvement in significant corruption or gross violations of human rights.
