Muhyiddin Yassin was the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia and a was a vocal critic of his government and party over the 1MDB scandal. He was once dropped from cabinet by former Prime Minister Najib Razak and expelled from his party United Malays National Organization (UMNO). Muhyiddin co-founded Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) and become the 8th Prime Minister, as leader of a new coalition Perikatan Nasional. On 16 August 2021, he resigned after attempts to regain support from MPs were unsuccessful. Muhyiddin unsuccessfully ran as the prime ministerial candidate for Perikatan Nasional in the 2022 general election. He is the second former prime minister of Malaysia after Najib Razak, to be prosecuted.
