The UK Gambling Commission has fined two online gambling operators for their social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings.
Done Bros (Cash Betting) Limited, trading as Betfred, will pay a penalty of USD 4.1 million, and Star Racing Limited, trading as Star Sports, has been fined USD 0.76 million. The fines come after a Gambling Commission investigation revealed that the operators failed to interact with customers in a manner that minimizes the risk of them experiencing harms associated with gambling.
Done Bros exhibited poor record keeping, and its financial alerts (thresholds) were set too high. On the other hand, Star Racing had ineffective policies, procedures, and controls in place at the time of the compliance assessment.
These failings occurred over various periods: Done Bros between January 2021 and December 2022, and Star Racing Limited between March 2020 and May 2021.
