On May 3, 2025, former Tunisian Prime Minister Ali Larayedh, a senior figure in the opposition Ennahdha party, was sentenced to 34 years in prison on terrorism-related charges. The court found him guilty of facilitating the departure of fighters to Syria, although Larayedh denied having any sympathy for, or involvement in, extremist violence.
