Peru’s Former President Sentenced for Corruption and Bribery

On October 21, 2024, Alejandro Toledo, former Peruvian President, was sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison for accepting $35 million in bribes from Odebrecht to secure the Interoceanic Highway project. Extradited from the U.S. in April 2023, he was found guilty of collusion and money laundering, joining three other Peruvian presidents implicated in the scandal.
