Guinea’s Ex-Prime Minister Sentenced for Corruption

On February 27, 2025, Guinea’s former Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $230,000 by the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses for embezzling $1.7 million in public funds, including COVID-19 relief aid. Fofana, who served from 2018 to 2021 under President Alpha Condé, was arrested in April 2022. His trial faced delays due to health issues. He denied the charges, which his lawyers described as politically motivated. The case forms part of broader anti-corruption efforts led by Guinea’s ruling military junta.
