On 22 July 2025, Rachida Dati, France’s culture minister and former justice minister, was ordered to stand trial on charges of corruption and abuse of power. Investigators allege she received €900,000 in legal fees from a Netherlands-based Renault-Nissan subsidiary between 2010 and 2012 without performing legitimate legal work, instead engaging in prohibited lobbying while serving as a member of the European Parliament. Dati denies the allegations and has vowed to appeal, remaining in her ministerial post while proceedings continue. The case also implicates former Renault-Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn, who faces related misconduct charges.
