On July 30, 2025, Eduard Lintner, a former German MP and ex-member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), was handed a nine-month suspended sentence for accepting and distributing funds linked to the Azerbaijani government to influence political decisions. The court found that between 2008 and 2016, Lintner received nearly €4 million through intermediaries to promote Azerbaijan’s political agenda— including bribing officials to oppose human rights reports critical of the country.
