Former Chairman of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) Sentenced for Corruption

On December 5, 2024, Sugat Ratna Kansakar, former General Manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), along with Shankar Prasad Adhikari, Shishir Kumar Dhungana, and Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, were convicted by the Special Court for corruption in the procurement of wide-body aircraft for NAC. Kansakar received a 2-year, 9-month jail term, while Adhikari, Dhungana, and Lamichhane were sentenced to shorter terms. A fine of Rs 122.59 million and an equal penalty were imposed on each. Three foreign representatives of the aircraft supplier were also convicted. However, former minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi and 26 others, including two foreigners, were acquitted.
