On September 3, 2025, Constant Mutamba, former Justice Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was sentenced to three years of forced labor for embezzling $19 million in public funds earmarked for the construction of a prison in Kisangani. Mutamba resigned in June 2025 amid the investigation and pleaded not guilty, but the court found he acted with intent to illicitly enrich himself and bypassed due process in the project.
