On August 9, 2025, Succès Masra, Chad’s former prime minister and leader of the Les Transformateurs party, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined nearly USD 1.8 million after being found guilty of inciting hatred, revolt, and complicity in murder. The charges stemmed from violent clashes between herders and farmers in Logone Occidental in May, which left 35 people dead and six others injured. Masra, a vocal critic of President Mahamat Déby, denied the allegations and urged his supporters to “stand firm.” His lawyer announced plans to appeal the verdict.
