Ex-Taiwanese Minister Indicted for Bribery and Corruption

On December 26, 2024, Ko Wen-je, Chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), was indicted for bribery, embezzlement, and corruption. As Taipei mayor (2018–2022), Ko allegedly accepted NT$17.1 million in bribes to assist Core Pacific Group in illegally increasing the floor area ratio (FAR) of a redevelopment project, boosting its financial value. During his 2024 presidential campaign, he and his accomplices reportedly embezzled over NT$68 million in political donations, using the funds for unauthorized purposes such as campaign staff salaries.
